Beyoncé’s mom Tina explains the name Rumi in Instagram post

Beyoncé announced her newborn twins are named Rumi and Sir on Instagram Friday, and now grandma Tina Knowles Lawson has followed up with an explanation for one of the unusual names.

“This is poetry by the 13th century poet Rumi,” Lawson wrote in an Instagram post Sunday, sharing a screenshot of several inspiring quotes. “It’s not only beautiful but logical.”

Lawson singled out quote number three as her favorite because, “Sometimes we are the reason we can’t find love!! We have to work on ourselves first to be whole.” Considering that Jay Z’s new album 4:44 and Beyoncé’s 2016 album Lemonade both confront the idea of infidelity within their high-profile marriage (and how they had to rebuild their relationship from the ground up in order to stay together), it’s not a huge stretch of the imagination to figure out why quotes like these might have resonated with the couple.

As Elle points out, Beyoncé has a long history of drawing inspiration from poetry and literature: Warsan Shire was a major collaborator on the visual album for Lemonade, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichi’s TED talk ‘We Should All Be Feminists’ is sampled in her song “Flawless.”
