It’s been more than 30 years since sci-fi audiences met Rick Deckard in the dystopian ’80s classic Blade Runner, and fans have been speculating about whether Deckard is a replicant almost as long.
Now, a new trailer for Blade Runner 2049 seems to imply an answer.
“We were being hunted,” says Deckard, played by Harrison Ford (who co-stars in the sequel alongside Ryan Gosling as LAPD Officer K). According to Warner Bros., Officer K—the new blade runner—discovers a secret that leads him on a mission to find his predecessor 30 years after the events of the first movie.
The new trailer elaborates a little on the relationship between the two men, and like the first, it delivers a look at the dirty, immersive atmosphere of this harsh future world. You’ll also see glimpses of more stars from the extensive cast, including Robin Wright as Officer K’s superviser, and Jared Leto as replicant manufacturer Neander Wallace.
Of course, movie trailers have been known to mislead audiences, but at least we can be fairly sure we’ll get a definitive answer to the “Is Deckard a replicant?” mystery when Blade Runner 2049 debuts on Oct. 6, 2017.
