Lily Collins (daughter of Phil) stars in To the Bone, a film about a teen who struggles with anorexia and reluctantly enters an “unconventional treatment program.” Keanu Reeves plays her chill doctor. Here’s the trailer:
The project is personal for Collins, who revealed this week that she has struggled with anorexia in the past.
“I had just written the chapter in my book about my history with eating disorders the week before I received the script for this movie,” she said to Refinery 29. “So it was like the universe literally throwing it in my face, saying this is something you need to address either for yourself or for other young people going through it out there.”
When director Marti Noxon was initially shopping the movie around to studios, executives told her the subject matter was too specific to ever draw an audience and make money:
“It seemed like male producers didn’t understand,” she told IndieWire. “I was told a number of times that it was just too small a topic. I was like, ‘What? Really?’ Half the movies that get made are about some really talented white guy who understands jazz, you know? So many of the indie movies that get made are not about topics that touch millions and millions of people.”
Please note the subtle La La Land roast.
